Many of us watch or follow the Grammy awards each year. This is much like the Oscar’s are for Hollywood, except that it recognizes the talents in the music industry, both on stage, and behind the scenes. The band “Coldplay” stated it the best when they said, “It’s not to do with sales, or the face of the band whoever that might be.
It recognizes songwriters and producers. And it is often the people who are working hard in the background that never get recognition. It’s a really important thing for them to be recognized for the big job that they do.”

There is a group associated with the Grammys called The Latin Recording Academy. This group has just recognized Ricky Martin as the “2006 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year!” You can read about this academy and it’s history and purpose by following this link
Ricky Martin is a HUGE star all around the world. He is a good singer and outstanding performer on stage. But he is also an active and big humanitarian. In 2000, he started a charity in Puerto Rico called the Ricky Martin Foundation which advocates for children’s rights. Now this organization has gone global due to it’s success.

Ricky Martin has been around singing longer that some people realize. He started in a latin boy band 22 years ago called Menudo. Check out this pic I found of them. Can you pick out Ricky from the group?
